What Is Fashion? Fashion Trends Definition

The question “what is fashion” is more complicated than it has ever been before. Since the concept of fashion was first conceived, people have been trying to define it; and with each new definition there are more variations of what it really is. Even within a single definition, there are infinite questions that can be asked such as what constitutes “trendy” or what exactly constitutes “sexy”. Basically, fashion is a sort of independence and self-expression in a certain time and place and in some context, manner, clothes, footwear, accessories, makeup, hair style, body posture, and even hairstyle. From its everyday usage, the word simply means a style defined by the fashion market as what is fashionable.

When it comes to what is fashion, one of the most interesting questions is that how many different ways there are to say that a trend is currently fashionable. One way to answer this question would be to say that the definition of what is fashionable changes constantly because the definition of what is fashionable changes with changing times, depending on the social conditions of a culture, age, and personality. This definition may also change because of cultural norms, personal preferences, advertising, and trends. All of these things can make what is fashionable a very vague and relative term which can sometimes be used to describe any number of fads, trends, styles, or sub-styles. However, the thing to keep in mind when asking what is fashion is that it isn’t simply a matter of definitions and it isn’t simply a matter of trends.

For instance, one fad might be men’s designer clothing and another fad might be women’s high heel shoes. These two fashions may be seen as being part of the same trend but this isn’t necessarily true. The truth is that what is fashionable today might not be considered fashionable tomorrow, just like what is fashionable today might be considered unfashionable next year. Ultimately, what is fashion is subjective and depends on each individual’s personal preferences and tastes, which are constantly changing and evolving as time goes by.
